PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a user loses only one shutter release opportunity if he (she) performs operation for detaching a lens cap from a photographic lens and also focusing operation for adjusting the photographic lens in a photographing state, because of taking trouble and time for the operation. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus equipped with an imaging lens which is operated to elongate/contract is provided with: a lens driving part 74 moving the imaging lens to a housing position and a photographing position; the lens cap 11 detachably attached to a camera main body 2 to which the imaging lens is attached; a position detection sensor detecting the position of the imaging lens 3 and outputting the detection signal; and a plane display panel 4 for warning that the lens cap is an obstacle if the imaging lens 3 is within a reference position Lc and warning that a member other than the lens cap is an obstacle if the imaging lens 3 is over the reference position Lc when judging that the imaging lens does not reach the photographing position on the basis of the detection signal from the position detection sensor.
