Digital signage display

A digital signage network employs a common data model and a subscription system to disseminate data gathered from a plurality of data sources to a number of displays. The network nodes interact with each other as content sources, content consumers, or both, with some systems acting as consumers to upstream sources and acting as sources to downstream consumers. The presentation of the data on a digital signage display allows for real-time binding of live data to provide a rich display effect.

1. A method of displaying information on a digital signage display comprising:
receiving content;
building a plurality of layers in accordance with the received content;overlaying and overlapping at least two of the plurality of layers;associating at least one timeline representing a designated period of time with a parameter of each of said layers such that each of said parameters change during said designated period of time; binding live data to at least one of the layers prior to flattening and rendering the layers; flattening and rendering the layers to the digital signage display; providing a timeline interface having a plurality of time bars associated with an element or a layer of the display such that a set of parameters for each time bar are variable with time and presented as nested timelines; variably and interactively adjusting a display duration for the element or the layer of the display during a display cycle using at least one of the plurality of time bars of the timeline interface while the element or the layer of the display is illustrated on the digital signage display; displaying a tool selector on the digital signage display; selecting at least one modular tool from a plurality of modular tools associated with the tool selector; controlling a property of a corresponding element or layer of the display using the selected modular tool; and rendering the modular tool inaccessible based on an availability of a data source of the corresponding element or layer of the display.
