PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct desired filter processing after smoothing processing of an image by pixel interpolation. SOLUTION: Image data received from an external device 101 are given to a smoothing circuit 104 through a stage of RGB conversion and UCR processing. On the other hand, the image data are also given to an image area separation circuit 107, where edges, dots in a white background or characters in medium tone area are detected, and the result of the processing is given to the smoothing circuit 104. The smoothing circuit 104 applies double conversion of the resolution of the image data depending on the result of image area separation. Filters 112, 113 apply desired image processing to the resulting image data. |
