Metal parts, e.g. those to be subjected to metal bending, are provided with a multilayer lubricating coating by encapsulating them in a hard, tough, substantially incompressible plastic material having certain defined physical characteristics, and then treating the surface of the plastic material with a lubricant melting in the range 37-110 DEG C. The plastic material may be chlorinated rubber, a vinyl copolymer, a polyvinyl acetal, a bisphenol epoxide of high M.W., cellulose acetobutyrate, or chlorinated polyethylene or polypropylene. The lubricant may be a fatty amine, amide, nitrile or quarternary ammonium salt, a polyglycol, an ethylene or propylene homo- or co-polymer, or a selfemulsifying wax such as myristyl myristate. Extensive exemplification of plastic material and lubricant is given. The two layers may be applied simultaneously by application to the metal surfaces of a stratifying organic solvent dispersion containing the two materials.ALSO:Metal parts are encapsulated in a hard, tough, substantially incompressible plastic material having certain defined physical characteristics which is in turn coated with a lubricant.
