905,916. Tufting-machines. CABIN CRAFTS Inc. Oct. 2, 1959 [Oct. 3, 1958], No. 33475/59. Class 112. [Also in Group IX] The needle bar of a tufting-machine is shiftable transversely to the direction of fabric feed to produce a pattern on that fabric. The needles N, which may each be threaded with a yarn of a different character, e.g. colour or thickness, are mounted on a needle-bar NB reciprocated by rods 10, each rod having a foot-plate 16 slidably engaged with a plate 18, bolted to the needlebar, to permit lateral movement between the bar and the rods. A collar 24c on one end of the bar embraces a post 26 connecting the two arms of a slide bracket 30. The bracket 30 is adjustably secured, by screws 36 and a micrometer bolt 42, to one end of a slide-beam 40 which can be reciprocated in a housing 50 by the co-operation of a pattern control cam 60 with follower rollers 47, 49 mounted on the slide beam. In operation, the cam is preferably driven from the motor driving the stitch-forming and feeding means of the machine so that the needle-bar is shifted laterally when the needle is withdrawn from the fabric. The loopers mounted below the fabric may be provided with cutters to produce cut pile loops. |
