In a reversible or turn over window having a casement which is rotatably mounted on pivots in the frame and which can be swung through an angle of 180 degrees from one closing position into another reversed closing position, an element on the frame for operating fastening means for the casement also operates arresting means which cooperates with one of the pivots to arrest the casement in any position intermediate between its two closed positions when the element for operating the fastening means is operated to the fastening position. As shown, in which the window casement is rotatable through 360 degrees about a vertical axis on pivot pins 5, 6 in the window frame, the window casement comprises four like frame sections 7 which retain double glazing 9 and which provide a housing for a Venetian blind and the operating mechanism 15, 18, 19, 30, 21 and 22 therefor, the mechanism being manually operable by means of one or the other of two crank handles at opposite sides of a stile of the casement, or by means of a single removable push-in crank-handle insertable at either side of the stile. In another arrangement, the mechanism is operable by means of a crank handle located in a space 28 between the frame and the adjacent side of the stile. Sealing strips 30 extend around the perimeter of the casement and in the closed position thereof ride on to convex co-operating surfaces 32 projecting from the frame. The casement is fastened in either of its two closed positions by means of a handle 34 pivoted to a jamb of the frame and operating, through a fork 35 and a pin 36, a rod 37 slidable within the jamb and having rack portions 38 which mesh with pinions 39 carrying bolts 40, each bolt being engageable with a wedgeshaped slot in the adjacent stile of the casement in each of the closed positions thereof. Displacement of rod 37 by the handle 34 in the fastening direction in the open and shut positions of the casement, actuates through a push rod 44, connected to the rod 37 by a chain 43, a pair of spring loaded brake jaws 45 mounted in the frame about the pivot 5, a ring 47 connected to the rod 44, being slidable along tapering portions of the jaws. |
