1,202,759. Producing metal powder. SOC. DES ACCUMULATEURS FIXES ET DE TRACTION. Dec. 17, 1968 [Dec. 18, 1967], No. 59984/68. Heading C7D. Metal is produced in the form of agglomerated particles by precipitating particles of the metal from a solution of a salt of the metal by agitating a mixture of the salt and a reducing agent with a purturbed whirling motion, continuing the agitation to agglomerate the metal particles, separating said particles from the mother liquid, and washing and drying the agglomerated particles to obtain the desired powder. The agitation is obtained either by creating more than one vortex in the mixture or by purturbing a single vortex e.g. by use of an agitator comprising rotatable and stationary blades. The powders obtained may be compressed and sintered to form electrodes. Advantageously silver powder is produced by this method from AgNO3 reduced by Na2 SO3, and these two compounds are mixed in equimolar concentrations. By varying agitation time agglomerate size can be controlled within the range 100-500 microns with a specific surface area of 2000-3000 cm<2> /gram. |
