A system for monitoring the operation of a number of machines such as looms comprises a multiple pen recorder A, the pens 20 of which are in contact with a moving paper 21, electromagnetic means B for controlling the position of the line each pen draws and a signal generator E coupled to each machine for generating signals identifying the cause of shut down of a machine. Each loom has a switch which operates on breakage of the worn yarn and a switch which operates on a breakage of the filling yarn. A further switch is also provided for manually stopping the loom and the three switches are connected in the transistor circuit of each signal generator. If, for example, the worn yarn breaks on a particular loom relays in the corresponding signal generator open the manual switch to shut down the machine and connect the pen to an oscillator in the signal generator so that a trace 22 is produced. When an operator reaches the loom, he depresses an interrupt button connected to the signal generator to temporarily return the pen to its initial line, thus recording by the part 32 of the trace, the length of time that the machine is closed down. The operator then repairs the breakage and the portion 33 of the trace records the time taken to repair the breakage. Similarly a trace 23 is recorded if the filling yarn breaks, however the oscillator output frequency is changed so that the loom fixer can tell from the trace which type of fault has developed. A third trace 24 is recorded when the machine is stopped for any other reason such as by actuation of the manual switch. Circuitry is also provided for recording the total shut down time of a group of machines, each machine having the contacts of one of the relays in its signal generator scanned once per minute for determining if the machine has been shut down. The scanner feeds counters so that the total shut down time of the machines may be determined. Similarly, circuitry is also provided for recording the number of times the machine or groups of machines have been shut down due to a particular cause.</p> |
