PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for the electrochemical decomposition of a compound, excellent in economical and reactional efficicencies and useful for delignification, etc., without polluting the environment by composing the system of a mediator without containing a (heavy) metal and plural electrodes. SOLUTION: This system for the electrochemical decomposition of a compound comprises a mediator such as 1-methylvioluric acid, 1,3-dimethylvioluric acid, thiovioluric acid, alloxan-4,5-dioxime or alloxan-5-oxime hydrate without containing a (heavy) metal and two or more electrodes composed of a noble metal, steel, special steel, carbon, etc., for electrochemically activating the mediator in the system for the electrochemical decomposition of the compound such as a lignin-containing compound or a dye. Furthermore, the system is preferably used at a mediator concentration of <50 g based on 1 ton compound to be decomposed at a temperature of up to about the boiling point of water. The decomposition is preferably carried out at a voltage of 0.5-40 V. |
