The tension in a yarn in a twister, cover, creel or knitting machine is adjusted and regulated by a device comprising a carrier 1 having a guide 2 for the yarn a brake plate 3 supported on the guide and a loaded threadguide element 8 movably mounted in the carrier. As shown, the yarn passes between the brake plate 3 and an annular guide 2 with rounded edges, the guides being mounted in a carrier 1 and the plate being loaded by a weight 5. Slidably mounted in a bore in the carrier is a thread guide element 8. This comprises a rounded thread-guiding surface 6 and, spaced from this surface, a depending member 13 carrying an exchangable weight 14, while a post 10 extends from the surace 6 through the plate and weight 5 and terminates in a stop 11. The weight 14 is connected by a screw 16 which engages the upper end of a slot 17 in the carrier to limit upward movement of the element. Yarn is threaded between the guide 2 and the plate 3 and the element is raised so that the yarn can be trained around the surface 6 through a slot (12, Fig. 3, not shown) in the element. When the element is 'released and falls the yarn is tensioned according to the load exerted by the plate, weight and element 8. When the tension falls, the element descends, until when a certain value is reached, the stop is drawn against the plate 3 which is then additionally loaded by the weight of the element 8. When the tension rises the element is lifted, until when a certain value is reached, a flat part 7 of the surface 8 engages the plate and lifts it off the yarn. When the using machine stops, the element falls and loads the plate and the length of yarn between the machine and the device remains under tension. In another form, the post 10 is dispensed with and the depending member 13 acts as a piston to apply a greater or less degree of suction to the plate 3. (Fig. 5, not shown). The member 13 may be loaded by a spring or magnetically and the internal passages in the carrier may be polygonal. More than one device as described can be provided in series in a single carrier. |
