1,161,946. Joints. H. MULLER. 23 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966; 4 March, 1966], No. 3368/67. Heading A4H. [Also in Divisions E1 and E2] A framework for stands, storage structures, furniture, partition walls and scaffolds comprises cruciform section rails 1, 2 interconnected at right angles by a clamp 7, each rail 1, 2 having a longitudinal rib 14 at each side of each of its four legs 5a and the clamp 7 comprising two claws 7a which are fitted into recesses 6 in opposed legs 5a of one rail 2 and have inturned ends 11 projecting from the rail 2 and clamped over the ribs 14 of the other rail 1 by drawing together the jaws 7a. As shown, the jaws 7a are interconnected by a screw 8 threaded into one jaw 7a and having a head 9 countersunk in the other jaw 7a. The head 9 has an hexagonal socket accessible through a hole 12 in the rail 2 to effect the clamping. The screw carries a spacer 26 to engage inner ends 27 of the legs 5a. Alternatively (Fig. 4), the jaws 7a are interconnected by flaps (18) with eccentrics (19) to open or close the jaws 7a. In a modified rail (Fig. 7), adjacent end faces (28a, 28b) of the legs are of unequal width. In another rail (Fig. 8) one pair of opposite legs are interconnected by a stiffening web (20). A further rail (50, Fig. 10) comprises two similar sections (31, 32) which interfit telescopically in a direction transverse to the length of the rail. Jaws (40, 41) are fitted into the ends of a pair of opposite legs such that relative movement of the jaws (40, 41) telescopes the rail sections (31, 32). |
