Consists of an active medium in an optical resonator. The active medium is a yttrium-aluminium-garnet crystal (YAG) doped with neodymium (Nd3+) a pumped light source and a mirror system to concentrate the pumped light source on the active medium. The optical resonator for coherent beam wavelengths has a high reaction in the range of 1.3 to 1.4 mu m and, furthermore, there are frequency-selective means for suppressing a regenerative oscillation at a wavelength of 1.06 mu m. The frequency-selective means - resonator mirror, absorber or dispersing media are e.g. dispersing prisms. - Additional ions of an element e.g. dysprosium or iron are added to the yttrium-aluminium-garent-crystals; these are strongly absorbent at wavelengths of about 1.06 mu m and are almost absorption-free at wavelengths of 1.3 to 1.4 mu m.
