[Also in Division G3] In a fuel injection pump in which the fuel pressure varies in accordance with the driven speed and in which the flow from the feed pump to the injection pump cylinder is controlled by a throttle, the throttle is angularly movable by hand or by a governor and axially movable against resilient means by the feed pressure. The throttle valve 30 has an arm 33 connected for angular adjustment to a governor arm 35. The arm 33 also carries an abutment 46 having a cam surface 49 engageable with an adjustable stop 48 when the governor sets the valve 30 to provide maximum fuel, such that axial movement of the valve 30 in accordance with feed pressure (and hence engine speed) will vary the angular setting of the valve and hence the quantity delivered. The valve 30 has an additional port (51, Fig.4 not shown) which when the pump is stationary registers with the fuel inlet 32 to provide excess fuel for starting. The valve is loaded by a weak spring 45, which allows the valve to rise on starting, and a working spring 44. |
