Compounds of the general formula (R 1 , 2 , 3 , a = H, C 1-6 alkyl or alkoxy, halogen, CF 3 , NO 2 , CN; R 5 = H, C 1-6 alkyl, cyclopropylmethyl, PhCH 2 ; R 6 = O, S; R, = H, C 1-6 alkyl or alkoxy; R 8 = H, C 1-6 alkyl, Ph) are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula with a compound (which may be prepared in situ) of the formula optionally followed by removal of the 8-benzyl group, if present, by hydrogenolysis. The above compounds are sedatives, tranquilizers and anticonvulsants, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical and veterinary preparations containing them together with a carrier. |
