摘要 1,138,851. Photo-electric attitude determination. HONEYWELL Inc. 3 Jan., 1966 [8 Jan., 1965], No. 153/66. Heading H4D. [Also in Division G2] For determining the orientation of a first member relative to a second member the first member carries a plurality of light detectors, a plurality of rotating planes of light are generated on the second member, and the times of incidence of the planes of light on the detectors relative to the times when the planes of light are in predetermined angular positions are measured to obtain representations of that orientation. The invention is described as applied to the determination of the line of sight to a target of a pilot on whose helmet 26 there are photo-diodes 22, 24 and an optical sight 28. Rotating planes 10, 12 of infra-red light are afforded by respective sources 14, 16 on a relatively fixed member 40; as source 16 rotates, beam 12 first strikes a detector 38 which causes timers 46, 47 to begin counting time and then strikes photo-diodes 22, 24 to stop the respective timers. (Conductors 51, 53 may be replaced by radio links when the members are remote from one another.) When source 16 has completed its sweep source 14 begins its sweep and actuates the photo-diodes after a detector 36, timing being accomplished similarly to that for source 16 by timers 57, 59. The timer scales may read the angles # 1 , # 2 , # 3 , # 4 in degrees, from which the sighting direction can be determined. A third plane of light may be added to remove "up"/"down" sighting ambiguity. The embodiment is particularly suitable for weapons fired towards targets not in line with the heading of the aircraft. The planes of light may be from slits in drums as in Fig. 1, but in the preferred embodiment they issue from rotated reflectors each having a reflective surface in the form of a series of rounded steps (see Division G2). When determining orientation of a remote object about three axes more rotating planes of light are utilized. Multiple simultaneous scanning can be used if the detectors are made sensitive to different types of light.
