WORT/grain separator in brewing employs TRAPS TO CONTROL GRAIN RETURN G5-. Consists of mash pan followed by two extractors each split into front and rear chambers so that the mash is fed continuously out through the extractors to the grains offtake. The grains are extracted by means of water in the rear chamber of the second extractor which floods diluted grains back to the front chamber and so to the rear chamber of the first extractor and thence to the front chamber. Each of the connecting pipes between these chambers has traps for pumping the grains back. The trap below the front chamber of the first extractor connects to a sediment settler which in turn links up with the mesh pan. The chambers in the front extractor connect to a wort intermediate vessel which is connected to the front chamber of the second extractor so that no grains need be admixed to the wort when charging from front to second extractor, and the wort need only be impinged on by water in this vessel. A sump for sediment leads back to the rear chamber of the second extractor and is fitted with a stirrer. |
