Of the generally known type in which the gas is introduced tangentially by a fan (3) via longitudinal slots so that the material is given a rotary motion and passes along the drum in a spiral path from the feed end (7) to the combined gas and solids discharge end (4), the novel feature being that a further gas/solids outlet (8) is provided near the feed end, the outlet pipes (5) and (8) being fitted with automatically operated stop valves or dampers (9), which open and close alternately. |
