A switch comprising a sliding member 5, carrying elongate moving contacts 6, has a body formed by two side members 2, carrying spring contacts 4, and narrow top and bottom members 3 which are assembled by means of resilient prongs 20 integral with members 2 and engaging in alternate mating recesses in the members 3. The contacts 6 are held in recesses in the slide 5 and may be circular, semi-circular, triangular or rhombic in cross-section (Figs. 13 to 16, not shown); they may extend in the direction of sliding, perpendicular thereto or obliquely (Fig. 12, not shown), and may be U-shaped to interconnect fixed contacts on the two sides (Fig. 11, not shown). The fixed contacts may be formed from metal stampings, as shown, or may comprise wires (Figs. 4 and 6, not shown), in each case the central contact area being supported by resilient portions making an acute angle with each other, and the contacts are situated in a plane approximately parallel to the plane containing the moving contacts 6. |
