A method of binding together articles such as coils of wire or bundles of rods comprises introducing an expandible substance into the voids and treating it to cause expansion and bridging between voids. The coil or bundle may be placed in a mould 5 prior to expansion of the substance, the latter being introduced either during or after the piling of the coils or rods into the mould. The substance or a component of an expandible mixture may comprise or be on a carrier, e.g. paper sheets or strips arranged between layers or coils. They may be applied by dipping when in liquid form or by vibratory feed when of a granular character. The articles may be pre-treated to prevent adhesion to the substance. Foamable plastics or latex may be employed. The substances may be protective or a protective coating may be applied. |
