1,265,807. Heating glass by passage of current. PILKINGTON BROS. Ltd., and R. SINGLETON. 27 May, 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 27291/68. Heading H5H. [Also in Division C1] In the sealing of glass parts 4, 5, such as in the manufacture of double glazing units, in which one glass sheet 5 is provided with conducting stripes 8, the electrically conductive elements 108 provide an electric arc and positioned to be adjacent each stripe, each have an extended arcing face or surface 11. As shown, each element 10 is mounted in a recess in an electrically insulating block 3 and may have its arcing face 11 below or on the same level as the surface 12 of the block 3. A number of different shapes are disclosed for the elements 10. The elements may be solid or may be a coating on an insulating block of steatite soapstone, materials suggested being of carbon or a refractory metal such as tungsten. The blocks 3 may be at each corner of the platen (1) supporting the lower sheet 4 so that the edges of the sheet rest on the blocks. The top sheet 5 is supported by vacuum platen 7 to overlie the edges of sheet 4. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifccation 1,032,639. |
