A fluid heater, e.g. for providing hot water or steam, Fig. 1, comprises a vertical hollow shell 1 containing a heat absorbing body 4 surrounded by a fluid region, e.g. a water space, and containing an oblique flat hollow body 6 defining an up-flow gas passage 15 having combustion means at the bottom thereof and a down-flow gas passage 5. Hot gases follow the paths indicated by solid arrows and are discharged through a flue gas exit 8. Cold water enters through a pipe 16 and passes through a conduit 7 into the flat body 6 from which it flows over convex end 2 and through ducts 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. Finally, hot water or heated steam is delivered through a tap 18. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the invention is applied to a geyser having a gas or petroleum burner 23, a water supply valve 25, an igniting and hot water delivery valve 26, a temperature regulating valve 27 and a delivery pipe 18. Both the flat body 6 and the heat absorbing body 4 may be formed from parallel pipes. |
