[Also in Division F3] A cartridge actuated fasterner driving tool comprising a barrel 52 telescopically received within a housing 4 for movement between a breech open and a breech closed position includes, located in a groove 114 in the housing, a blade spring 112 the ends 115, 116 of which engage recessed portions 120, 122 on the barrel. The rearward end of each portion includes a tapered surface 124, and the rear end of the barrel is chamfered (Fig. 3). After loading with a cartridge 58 the barrel is moved from its breech open position towards the breech face 16. The rear end of the barrel forces the ends of the blade spring apart and the ends engage in the recessed portions just prior to abutment of the barrel with a cocking rod 36. Thus the barrel is held adjacent the firing position, and the firing mechanism is not cocked. Upon placing the tool against a work surface the firing mechanism is cocked and a cartridge ejecting member 96 engages the cartridge rim, so that when the barrel is moved to its breech open position a spent cartridge is ejected. A buffer member 88 of nylon or polyurethane is provided in the barrel. |
