A portable sewing machine is mounted in a case for pivotal movement from a rest position where it lies within the case to a position for use where it stands on the case and one wall of the case forms a working surface when the machine is in use. As shown in fig. 3 the machine is pivoted at 4 to a fixed wall part 3, wall parts 11, 12 and 13 having been hinged back to expose the machine. When the machine is in the working position the wall part 12 hinged to wall part 11 is guided to stand vertically and its free edge is located in a notch at the base of the case for this purpose. When the wall part 13 is moved into the closed position a linkage 30 moves a lever 21 mounted below the machine base into engagement with a keeper 23 and disengages it when the wall part is moved in the opposite direction. |
