A wicking material comprises a lubricating oil and cotton linters fibres, the oil and fibres being admixed so that the oil is retained by the fibres. Preferably 96% of the fibres are less than 5mm. in length, the majority being less than 2.5mm. in length. The oil is preferably a bearing oil and the linters retain 4 parts of oil to one part of fibres, by weight. In a preferred embodiment 89.5% of the fibres have lengths greater than 1 mm with 84.5% of the fibres having lengths between 1 and 4mm. |
