1,216,059. Fluid coupling control. ALFALAVAL AB. 13 Oct., 1969 [15 Oct., 1968], No. 50083/69. Headings F2C and F2D. A fluid coupling comprises a two-part vaned housing 9 driving a central vaned wheel 28 and has inlets 33 fed by a stationary scoop tube 15 extending into a rotating ring of oil in a groove 16 on the housing 9, and first and second outlets 34, 22, the outlets 22 being normally closed but being opened when the driving torque reaches a predetermined and adjustable value. As shown, the housing is driven by a two-armed lever 18 fast on a shaft 5 and having ends (19), Fig. 2 (not shown), engaging between shoulders 20, 21 on the housing. The shoulders 20 are formed with the outlets 22, and the shoulders 21 carry adjustable stops (26) engaging one end of springs (23) in cross-bores in the ends (19), the other end of the springs urging pins (24) against the outlets 22. The arms drive the shoulders 21 through the springs (23) so that excess driving torque compresses the springs allowing movement of the arms towards the shoulders 21 and positive withdrawal of the pins (24) from the outlets 22 to open the outlets. The wheel 28 drives a gearwheel 2 through a hollow shaft 4.
