In the alkaline hydrolysis of chlorobenzene in the liquid phase at ca 350 degrees - ca 450 degrees C or pref. 380-420 degrees C, the hydrolysis is effected by a concentrated aqueous alkali hydroxide and/or alkali phenolate solution or with an anhydrous alkali hydroxide or phenolate. Advantage lies in the increased yield of o- and p-hydroxydiphenyl whether the main prod. is phenol or diphenyl ether. |
