[Also in Division G2] Diazo-indoles of the formula wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl or carboxylic or sulphonic acyl group and R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen or together complete a fused benzene ring, are prepared by refluxing the appropriate 3 - p - tolylsulphonyl - hydrazono - oxidoles with NAOH in methylene chloride. The compounds in which R is an acyl group may also be prepared by treating the corresponding compounds in which R is hydrogen with a carboxylic acid chloride or a sulphonyl chloride. Examples describe the preparation of diazooxindoles and diazo-benz[e]-indolinones in which R is hydrogen or a methyl, acetyl, benzoyl, 1- naphthoyl and cinnamoyl group. |
