A metallic end core 28 (Fig. 2) is fitted to the pipe-withdrawal end of a centrifugal pipe casting mould 34 and is held thereto by a centrifugal locking finger 36 which abuts a projection 33 of the core 28. A facing insert 40, preferably of brass, extends perpendicular to and around the inner mould surface, to form a casting surface for the end of a pipe 24. The end core casting surface is patterned by providing grooves, indentations or knurling which hold the solidified end surface of the pipe 24 firmly in position during the cooling of the pipe to prevent ellipsoidal deformation. In Fig. 4, a brass insert 46 is welded to the core body 28 and has a plurality of indentations 44 equally radially spaced. |
