A stable solution suitable for the treatment of mastitis in dairy cattle by intramammary infusion comprises erythromycin free base dissolved in an oil having from 8 to 18 carbon atoms in each fatty moiety of the oil and having an iodine number no greater than 42. The oil may be naturally occurring coconut oil, hydrogenated coconut oil, substantially saturated fatty acid triglycerides, diglycerides and esters of saturated fatty alcohols, acetylated mono glycerides, and ethers condensed from saturated fatty alcohols. The erythromycin free base may have a concentration of from 10 to 200 mg./ml. of solution. The solution, which may be filtered sterile, may contain antioxidants. |
