The internal surface 6 Fig. 1a of a heated tube 1 through which is passed a stream of cold liquefied gas undergoing vaporization has secured thereto a plurality of adjacent turbulence producing devices each having a width in the axial direction of the tube which is short compared with the tube length and serve to prevent formation of a vapour film on said internal surface. The turbulence producing devices may comprise corrugations in a strip of metal tape 4 wound helically along the tube interior to which the troughs are welded. Alternatively the turbulence is produced by staggered zig-zag metal strips 8 Fig. 2b. Each of a plurality of vertical nests of horizontal tubes 62 Fig. 8 are constructed of pressed plates 56, 57 provided with half-profile tubes 58, 59 connected together by ribs 60, 61 and having external fins 70, 71. The two vertical margins of plates 56, 57 forms entry and exit ducts 64, 65 Fig. 7a which are connected by duets 75, 77 to manifolds 83, 84. The assembly of nests is mounted in a hot water bath 78 Fig. 9 heated by flue gas from a burner (not shown) admitted at 79 or by steam.</p> |
