Alkenylsilanes are produced by catalysed reaction of an opt. substd. acetylene with RR'SiHX where X = halogen; R = H, halogen or organic group; R' = halogen or organic group. Improved yields and catalyst stability are obtained when the solvent is a disilylethane and the reaction temp. is 120-220 degrees C esp. 130-180 degrees C. The product distils out of the solution as it is formed.
