[Also in Division C2] Catalysts, for the hydrogenation of saturated and/or unsaturated aldehydes and/or ketones, preferably in the vapour phase, comprise copper and/or nickel and, if desired, one or more conventional modifiers, supported on silica gel, the surface of which has a pH of 6 to 10. The pH of the surface of the silica gel support is adjusted by adding solutions of non-volatile inorganic bases such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, either before or at the same time as the solutions of copper and/ or nickel, and/or modifiers.</p> |
