Dialkylaminosulphonamidobenzenes - useful as pre - and post -emergent herbicides

Cpds of formula: (where X and Y, same or different are H, halogen, alkyl, SO3H, or NO2, R1 and R2, same or different, are H or 1-4C alkyl; R1 and R2 are not both H) are useful as pre- and post-emergence herbicides. They are prepd by treating R1-NH-R2 with sulphonyl chloride and treating the product with: One active substrate is p-(dimethylaminosulphonamido) toluene, m.p 91-92 degrees C.
