To develop the separation rows in stocking manufacture using a double cylinder circular knitter, the yarn is drawn into all needles in the lower cylinder before being passed to alternater needles in the upper cylinder. - Loops are then passed up to the remaining needles for the first row to be completed, before future rows are knitted in the lower cylinder. - This allows the separation rows to be achieved without stopping the machine, and for the oscillating components to be located close to each other, and reducing the distance of any oscillating swing.
