1,236,725. Stranding machines. SIEMENS A.G. 23 Feb., 1970 [21 Feb., 1969], No. 8655/ 70. Heading D1T. [Also in Division B3] Apparatus for stranding elongate elements together, e.g. insulated conductors for communication cables includes a first device which rotates about an axis and carries the elements about said axis, the arrangement being such that the elements are twisted together on running on to the device and are twisted again in the same sense on running off it and a second device which is situated where the elements in being carried by the first device will rotate about it and which untwists the elements after they have run off the first device and twists them together again. In an embodiment conductors 2 which are twisted together to form a star quad 3 pass through a guide plate 29 on to the first device which constitutes a rotatable stranding stirrup 4 provided with a counterweight 13. Pulleys 30 on the stirrup guide the conductors to the second device 7 which untwists the conductors as they leave the stirrup and then twists them together again after which the twisted conductors pass through a die 19, a pull-through device 5 and on to a storage drum 6. The device 7 includes a gear wheel 23 (Fig. 2 not shown) driven from gearing which rotates the stirrup and secures to the gear wheel is a plate 26 forward with four spaced apertures 28 for each conductor (Fig. 3). The plate is rotated in the same direction as the stirrup but at twice the speed.
|
