<p>Esters of general formula (I) in which A is from (II), (III) and (IV), and n is the valency of A, are copolymerised with vinyl and/or allyl monomer(s) in the presence of catalyst and/or accelerators, to act as impregnating or potting resins. A specific use is as an insulating resin for impregnating windings. The resin has good electrical properties, low shrinkage on cure, and good heat stability. In particular it shows a low loss in weight during permanently hot conditions. The esters may be prepared by heating A(OH)n with n moles of maleic acid or anhydride and n moles of (V) at above 150 degrees C.</p> |
