Gas bubble detector - for cooling circuit of sodium cooled nuclear reactors

A tube with a blind end is welded into the wall of a fuel container at its highest point and a current is passed from a D.C source across the tube. The good conductivity of the surrounding Na ensures that there is normally no voltage drop across the tube. The accumulation of gas bubbles causes a measurable voltage drop across the tube and this is indicated by suitable instrument.
