Leather mfr - with amino acid deliming of hides and drenching with papaine andpancreatine mixt

Lime-soaked unhaired hides are (a) de-limed with an aq. soln. of aminoacid(s) or aminoacid salt(s) and then (b) treated at 20-50 degrees (30-40) degrees C with a mixed enzyme of papaine and pancreatine until desired drenching effect is reached. De-liming (a) and drenching (b) steps are pref. effected in one bath, at pH 6-9 (6.5-8.5). Aminoacids may be serine, glutamic acid, cysteine. HCl and/or their salts, and also keratine hydrolysates contg. them. Mixed enzyme pref. contains activated papine and crude pancreatine in 80:20 to 20:80 ratio w.r.t. enzyme activities. Activation may be effected with cysteine or derivs. Process combines good de-liming as well as complete scruf-removal from leather.
