1363365 Perfluoroalkyl phosphorus iodides FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 3 March 1972 [6 March 1971] 9991/72 Heading C2P [Also in Division C5] Novel perfluoroalkyl phosphorus iodides of the formula (R f ) 3-x PT x in which R f is a straight chain perfluoro-alkyl radical having 4 to 24 carbon atoms and x is 1 or 2 are obtained by reacting a perfluoroalkyl iodide R f I with elementary phosphorus at 200‹ to 280‹ C. and if desired separating the resulting mixture of (R f ) 2 PI and R f PI 2 , e.g. by distillation or chromatography. The perfluoroalkyl iodide starting material may comprise a mixture of C 4 -C 24 radicals, e.g. as obtained by telomerization of tetrafluoroethylene with pentafluoroethyl iodide. The products are useful as additives for lubricant oils and may be converted to the corresponding phosphinic and phosphonic acids which are useful as surface active substances and as oil and water repellents. |
