1324019 Cellulose derivative membranes EASTMAN KODAK CO 26 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 56225/70 Heading B5B A membrane suitable for reverse osmosis is made by casting a solution of a cellulose derivative in a water miscible solvent and which contains a water soluble bore producing agent, on to a surface of a polymeric film which has been treated so as'to have a contact angle with water at 25‹ C. of less than 55 degrees, setting the cast layer by immersion in an aqueous bath, and removing the resulting membrane. The polymer surface may be (i) a cellulose triacetate or polyester film which has been alkali-treated, (ii) a polyester or polyolefin film which has been corona-discharge treated or (iii) a hydrophobic film coated with a hydrophilic layer, e.g. gelatin (or a mixture thereof with cellulose nitrate), sodium ethyl cellulose sulphate, PVA or a vinylidene chloride-methyl methacrylateitaconic acid terpolymer. Exemplified is an acetone solution of cellulose acetate containing formamide.
|
