The lock cylinder has a key slot (14) for receiving a flat key and two rows of pin tumblers (12). The pin tumblers (12) are mounted displaceably in cylindrical bores (11). The longitudinal mid-plane of the key slot (14) serves as a reference plane for the arrangement of the tumbler-pin bores (11). One row of tumbler-pin bores is located on one side of the longitudinal mid-plane and the other row of tumbler-pin bores is located on the other side of the latter, the longitudinal axes of the bores extending parallel to one another and to the longitudinal mid-plane of the key slot. On the flat key, therefore, the rows of key wards are located on a narrow side of the key. With a conventional size of the lock cylinder, this arrangement makes it possible to provide a plurality of pin tumblers with a large number of sufficiently deep step jumps, so as to afford a very large number of possibilities of variation guaranteeing better safety against unauthorised unlocking. <IMAGE> |
