The circuit is designed to perform recording and playing regardless of data speed by changing the speed of drum rotation and tape movement according to data speed. The circuit includes : an interface (1) for converting digital input signal (VDi) into digital high definition signal (HDi) at digital record mode and converting digital high definition signal (HDo) into digital data (VD0) at digital replay mode; a data speed determining section (2); an error correcting section (3); a format converting section (4); a signal amplifier (5); a PLL; a control section (7); and a servo system.
