Automatic triple pressure brake system for railway vehicle - has main pressure distributor with differential piston to accelerate first braking stage

The main pressure distributor consists of two pistons to connect the brake cylinder with the auxiliary air container and progressively vent the brake cylinder. One piston defines two chambers, one communicating with the auxiliary container and the main feed pipe via a calibrated bore and a non-return valve. The second chamber has an accelerator valve which is joined to the venting valve and the check valve. The valves are controlled by the first braking stage and the brake cylinder supply. The second piston is a differential piston to cause the closing pressure for the first braking stage. Towards the end of the braking process, the valve is re-opened for the first braking stage. At the same time, the venting and check valves are re-opened at a pressure value considerably less than that of the return to normal working.
