The invention proceeds from a method for storing densifiable radioactive waste materials. The waste materials are densified, the densified waste materials are accommodated in standardised storage drums made from sheet steel, and the filled storage drums are stored in storage sites, in particular in underground storage sites. In this case, the waste materials are filled into auxiliary drums made from steel sheet. They are densified with the auxiliary drums to form moulded steel shell articles. In each case, a plurality of the moulded steel shell articles are accommodated in the storage drums, which are thereby simultaneously stiffened. The result is that the radioactive waste materials no longer lie freely in the waste drums, that the storage drums are reinforced, and that substantially larger quantities of radioactive waste materials can be accommodated in the storage drums and thus in the storage sites. <IMAGE>
