A device for lifting manhole covers, such as water and hydrant covers, sewer covers and the like, has a frame with a rocking lever which in the lifting position can be positioned at least approximately perpendicularly above the cover. A hook is firmly mounted on one side in front of the rocking lever on a frame part, and a second hook is fastened on the other side behind the rocking lever to a frame part in such a way as to be pivotable about at least one horizontal axis and vertically adjustable. A supporting part lies on the same side as the second hook and is firmly connected to the frame.
