Butenoic ester and salt antiulcer agents - comprising 3,4,5-tri:methoxy phenyl 4-oxo butenoic acid salts and its methyl ester

The (E) isomers of formula (I) are new where R is CH3, and also the morpholine, sodium and piperidine salts of (I) where R is H. (I) are antiulcer agents. In contact with gastric mucosa they show an anti-secretory and cytoprotecting action, and are particularly useful in treating hyperchlorhydria, gastric ulcers, gastroduodenal uclers, gastritis, hiatic hernias, and gastro- and gastrodudoenal disorders accompanying gastric hyperacidity.
