The device is used in electric metallurgy and is designed for electric slag melting furnaces under pressure or under vacuum, or in vacuum arc furnaces. The device consists of a driving cylinder (1), fixed to a sealing flange (2). A brace (4) is mounted to the piston rod (3) of cylinder (1) which in its lower end is connected to an electrode holder. Brace (4) and the electrode holder are engaged by a current conducting tube which is inserted in the narrow tubular part of a bottle shaped vessel (8) turned with its wider part upwards. In the wide part (9) of the bottle-shaped vessel (8) the current-conducting tube, by means of cables and a current conducting ring sealed in the wall of the vessel, is connected to a current source. Between the sealing flange (2) and the upper bottom (14) of the wide part (9) of the bottle-shaped vessel (8) weight sensors (15) are mounted, the piston rod (3) and the brace (4) fitted to it being engaged and gas sealed by means of an articulated compensator (16) fitted and realed by one of its flanged to the sealing flange (2), and by its other flange to the upper bottom (14) of the bottle-shaped vessel (8). Inside the wide part (9) of the bottle-shaped vessel (8), to its lower bottom (17), articulated compensators (18) are fitted and sealed, the pneumatic acting surfaces of which are equal to the pneumatic acting surface of compensator (16). The compensators (16) are fitted to the sealing flange (2) by means of an inner flange (19) and tube (20), and their inner cavities, by holes (22) in the lower bottom (17) of the wide part (9) of the bottle-shaped vessel (8), are connected to the atmosphere.
