PURPOSE:To calculate and detect a wind direction by detecting a negative pressure corresponding to a particular direction of an air current as electric signals by arranging a wind receiving member and air current interfering members both provided in a gas passage at prescribed spacings. CONSTITUTION:The backward surface pressure Pd of a wind measuring cylinder 1 take out from a pressure outlet 4a is symmetric with respect to a wind direction theta=0 deg. as a negative pressure in accordance with the absolute value of the wind direction thetaand thus the absolute value of the wind direction can be detected. Backward surface pressures P1 and P2 downstream of left and right discriminating cylinders 2 and 3 are taken out from pressure pickup paths 5 and 6, respectively, and a difference P1-P2 is obtained. It can be decided that, when the difference P1-P2 between the backward surface pressures P1 and P2 is negative, the wind direction theta is positive, that is, in a direction shown by an arrow and, when positive, the wind direction theta negative. Accordingly, when the backward surface pressures Pd, P1 and P2 of the respective cylinders are measured from the pressure pickup paths 4, 5 and 6 of the wind direction measuring cylinder 1, left and right discriminating cylinders 2 and 3, respectively, by using a pressure detector, such as a semiconductor pressure sensor 11 or the like, the wind direction for a constant wind velocity can be detected based on the measured values thus obtained and a map set in advance.
