PURPOSE:To produce a fluorine-containing polymer which can markedly lower the surface tension of water when used even in a small amount, by reacting a polymer obtained by polymerizing a cyclic iminoether by ring opening in the presence of a specified polymerization initiator with an aqueous alkali solution. CONSTITUTION:An acrylic iminoether of formula I (wherein R is H or a 1-3C aliphatic group) is polymerized by ring opening at 0-20 deg.C and a monomer to polymerization initiator molar ratio of 0.1-500 in a solvent (e.g., dimethylformamide) in the presence of a polymerization initiator of the formula: Y-Z<2> (wherein X is a 3-36C polyfluoroaliphatic group-containing residue, Z<2> is a sulfonic ester or sulfuric ester, I, Br or Cl and n is 2-3) to obtain a polymer of formula II [wherein p is 1-100 and Y<1> is formula III (wherein Z is a sulfonic ester or sulfuric ester)] or of formula IV (wherein Z<3> is I, Br or Cl). If desired, this polymer is reacted with a large excess of an aqueous alkali solution of 1-20wt% concentration at 10-50 deg.C to obtain a fluorine-containing polymer of formula V (wherein Y is formula III or formula IV). |
