PURPOSE:To minimize damage on tracks at the time of cleaning the surface of a record carrier by moving a member that wipes the surface of a card type optical information record carrier in the direction at right angles to tracking direction of the record carrier. CONSTITUTION:When fingerprints, oil, dust, etc. adhered on an optical card 1 are removed, if the card 1 is dropped onto the stepped part of a cleaner stand member 2, the upper face of the optical card 1 is the same height as that of the upper face of the cleaner stand member 2 or the upper face of the card projects from the upper face of the member 2 as the depth of the stepped part is equal to or smaller than the thickness of the card. Then, the direction of tracking direction of the optical card 1 is controlled to intersect the direction of movement of a cleaning pad 4 at right angles by sliding the projection part of a grip 6 by pushing it by hand while coupling it to a groove part of the cleaner stand member 2. Thereby, careless damages on the surface of a recording medium can be prevented.
